February Homeschool Happenings

Adelaide is beginning to spell and write really well . . look at how cute her thank you card is?
Both girls are really excelling at Language Arts/Grammar and their test scores look great!
We found this Harry Potter Dictionary that we have been using for spelling and it's been really fun to try and find the words in the books and talk about the story.  Avonleah still says she's very disappointed in me that I haven't read all the Harry Potter books!
Adelaide has this amazing memory and not only memorizes her spelling words but memorizes the order that they're in and hates it when I mix them up on test taking day!  She completes all her memory work every single week within the first two days, it's really quite amazing what little brains can do.

We had an art class where we studied ancient Chinese brush techniques and clay pinch pots.  Both girls did really well on their paintings.  Avonleah especially loved this art class.

I was unsure how Shakespeare and young children would mix, but after studying "The Comedy of Errors" in our Literature class I am every convinced we don't challenge our kids enough.  Avonleah thinks Shakespeare is amazing and not only loved reading it, but would put in all the character voices and use awesome expressiveness.  We got to learn about puns and alliteration, exposition and stock characters and as with all things in our curriculum we got to tie everything back into a gospel principle.  We laughed and laughed and then when we finished we watched the BBC stage version of it to solidify the ideas.  It was really a lot of fun.
