Lessons learned from a 15 hour road trip

  1. Never assume the brand new DVD player you brought works . . .should have given it a test run!
  2. No matter how much you coax a six year old to "just get out of your seatbelt for a second and get your sister's pacifier/book/sippy cup" she will not break the law because she fears "going to jail"
  3. Motorcycle Police in Idaho will definitely discriminate against out of state drivers and rudely tell you "if you weren't from out of state you might be able to understand construction signs" and then promptly give you a ticket no matter how clean your record is. . .aaarg
  4. Never ever ever assume that you'll find a gas station "just right up the road" . . .thank goodness for prayers and running of fumes!
  5. If you make a CD with your 2 year old's favorite song (aka "Praise to the Man") you will have to listen to it literally 17 times in a row to satiate her boredom . . .several times during the trip (thank you Abi for our Justin Bieber CD because she decided she loves "Baby Baby" too . . .ahh sweet diversity!)
  6. No matter how many times you hear your 6 year old say she doesn't need to go to the bathroom she will need to go to the bathroom not 5 minutes after you've left the gas station . . .sry for flashing anyone while allowing her to use the side of the road!
  7. That weird sound is your air conditioner fan going out . . .when it's 98 degrees outside
  8. The license plate game, I spy ABC, and singing "this is the song that never ends" isn't nearly as fun as the mom as it was as a kid. . .it's more annoying now than anything!
Was it worth it . . .to drive 15 hours to attend my family reunion. . .HECK YEAH my family rocks!
