Avonleah's preschool class got to go to the fire station for a little field trip since they spent the month of October learning about community helpers, of course since it's preschool all the parents get to attend and chaperone these eventful little trips. I try to stand back and be an observer of Avonleah is situations like this just to see what she will say and do and to marvel at how grown up she is starting to act. She was definitely disappointed that they no longer slide down firepoles when the alarm goes off, something about ankle injuries and insurance but was satiated when she saw the super fast slide they get to use. She also couldn't believe that there wasn't the iconic dalmation sitting by the fire truck, she asked fireman Matt about this and I missed his response but her facial expression showed she did not accept or believe his explanation at all. Her favorite part was sitting in the fire truck and getting to wear the headset. . .she said it was "so cool and extra loud when she talked!" After seeing the firemen in all their gear she was terrified because of the oxygen mask thing and so we had to have a chat about how if she's ever stuck in a fire and sees one of these masked men she would need to swallow her terror and let him help her or she would die. . .I'm afraid she's still not convinced that he's there to save her. My favorite response of hers was when they showed the kids the weight room and Avonleah pipes up and says, "fire fighters have to have strong muscles and eat lots of food for big energy so they can fight fires!" I think she made that fireman's day!

Too cute! Aren't we so blessed to be able to go with our kids on their fun field trips?! :) I wouldn't have it any other way!!
We went on Friday and E asked the same question about "where's your dog?" Matt told her that they don't have one, but one of the reasons that some stations have one is to guard the truck so nobody steals anything while the firefighters are busy with the fire! Can you believe that?!
