A Mother's Plight to Teach a Toddler About Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving Season is about teaching a two year old to say "Corn-a-co-pee-a" and then waiting for them to burst into giggles because you said "Pee" outside of the bathroom. It's about making pilgrim bonnets that look like an Amish nightmare, dressing up in them and trying to lie your way through the outdated and untrue version of the Thanksgiving story we learned in History Class in the 90's. It's about teaching your toddler that it's alright to say "Indian" if we're talking about Thanksgiving at Plymouth Rock, but not if we're talking about it today, instead you tell them that we should say, "Native American" just in case someone bent on being "P.C." enters the room. It's about singing songs called, "Turkey Trot, Trot" and "Thank You Pilgrim," and then trying to discuss why the Turkey dies at the end of Turkey Trot. And most importantly it's about teaching the ever dying art of gratitude while your patience wears thin that you will never receive the gratitude deserved for such life saving lessons! From the pictures she's picked up the important things, coloring, cutting, gluing and looking like a darling angel despite the sassiness hiding under the smug exterior, although I must say she does a darn fine job of singing "Thank You Pilgrims!"
